Because of this, you will more likely encounter them wherever food is consumed outdoors and around garbage collection areas.<\/p>\n      <p>If you notice large numbers of wasps in your home or garden, there is likely to be a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentokil.ie\/wasps\/wasp-nest\/\">wasp nest<\/a> nearby. It may be in your house, in your garden or very close by. A mature nest in summer\/autumn can contain thousands of wasps. When they do attack, most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentokil.ie\/wasps\/species\/#common-and-german-wasp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wasps, yellow jackets and hornets<\/a> are aggressive and will sting REPEATEDLY.<\/p>\n\n      <h2><strong>How <\/strong><strong>can I<\/strong><strong> identify <\/strong><strong>the <\/strong><strong>nest type<\/strong><strong>?<\/strong><\/h2>\n      <ul>\n        <li><strong>Paper wasps<\/strong>: This is an open nest with hexagonal cells. It usually has an umbrella shape and may contain fewer than 100 paper wasps.<\/li>\n        <li><strong>Hornets:<\/strong> A hornet nest has a football shape surrounded by smooth walls.<\/li>\n        <li><strong>Bees:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentokil.ie\/wasps\/species\/#common-and-german-wasp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bee hives<\/a> are recognisable by their distinctive waxy appearance.<\/li>\n        <li><strong>Yellow jacket wasps<\/strong>: You can spot a yellow jacket wasp nest by the activity around the nest. You\u2019ll see wasps going back and forth to a concealed location.
